Items
We call this area our items of interest which include topics which have been discussed before and problems or issues that have come up in the past.

KNOWN PROBLEMS:

The biggest problems have come from people on AOL. This is not to say that people on AOL always have problems. We have many members on AOL that have never had a problem at all. This is just one thing to consider if you have subscribed to the list but have been unable to post or receive messages to or from the list. Sometimes posts from AOL get bounced which means that they never make it to our list but a copy of the message will be forwarded to me, the list owner. That gives me a chance to contact the sender and try to see if they can get the problem ironed out with their ISP. This is a problem that somehow usually manages to work itself out with AOL.

PREVIOUSLY COVERED TOPICS:

There have been several various topics covered on our list in the past. These overviews are meant to give you a general idea of what was discussed and what general direction the discussion went in. Please, feel free to add your opinion to the list on any topic at all. Here are no off limit topics on our list, as long as it stays focused on bassfishing. I would appreciate you not going deeply into hot political issues though. Of course, these things have their place in any bassfishing discussion so long as they don't begin to dominate the discussion of bassfishing.

Lines have been discussed at great length. The threads that we have followed in the past have been on Copolymer line, line color, super lines, and even mono vs. superline.

It was agreed that Copolymer line was a monofilament but it was made up of a mixture of plastics that were extruded as a single line just like normal monofilament would be. The only true difference being that the Copolymer line was made from a tougher mixture than the normal mono.

We have discussed in the past whether or not line color had an effect on strike ratios. It was decided that color did have some effect in the gold color, which seemed to be less effective that any other color under most any conditions.

Apparently there are quite a few people on the list who use or have used super lines. Most feel that it is good line but that it has it's drawbacks as well. Since it doesn't stretch the same as mono you need to remember not to set the hooks as hard with it. You may also want to use a less stiff rod since they will enhance the shock effect. If you use a lighter action rod it will help to reduce the shock to end of the line on hookset. We have also concluded that Fusion in particular has a tendency to fray when used around rocks.

On the question of mono vs. superline the jury is still out. We welcome any new opinions or information you may have on the subject.

IRC revisited:

I thought I'd touch on the IRC topic again. For a little while there we were a happening bunch on IRC then I had to start up some classes for work and it's really gone to the wayside. Well, I'm looking to bring it back again. What I propose is that we all meet on Sunday evenings in our chatroom. I think that sometime between 5 PM and 9 PM (you pick the time zone) would be a pretty good time to get together. Of course, for those of you lucky enough to be out on the water at that time can revel in your momentary bliss while the rest of us talk about what else wishing we were in your place. Our channel hasn't changed. It's still on the Undernet server and it's still called #bassfishing. We have had an established schedule of Monday and Thursday nights from 4 - 9 PM Pacific time. Although, according to Nicolo he hasn't seen too many of you lately. I know that I've learned quite a bit from my IRC chats from the likes of Jay, Danny, Ed, Bob, and Nicolo among others. I love those chats they are a wonderful way to get to know the other listmembers. So, beginning tomorrow the established chat time is Sunday evening from 5 PM to 9 PM and if you want to stay longer or drop by earlier. By all means, go for it.

Below is a list of Undernet Servers and a link to the Mirc download page. There are many ways to access the Undernet Servers, but the easiest way is through the use of a program called Mirc, and is extremely easy to use. With this program just put in the address of a server near you and then hit the button that says connect to server. It really is that easy. If any of you have any other questions please feel free to email me.
